Capel Bangor and District Show – how it came to be :
A public meeting was held on December 15, 1969 to discuss establishing a show.
Present at this meeting was Mr.G.Thomas Troedrhiwlwba, Mr.W.Jones Tyllwyd, Mr.W.Evans Llwyniorwerth, Mr.J.Davies Fron, Mr.Foster Glanrhydytynnoedd, Mr J Davies Rhiwarthen, Mr. M. Davies Maencrannog, Mr.F.Williams, Cefnllidiart, Mr Eifion Thomas Gwelfryn, Mr.W.Jones Cyncoed, Mr E.Davies Aberffrwd Farm, Mr.T.Morris Neuadd Parc.
Mr.G.Thomas chaired this meeting and a treasurer was then elected, Mr. M.Davies, Maencrannog, as raising funds would be one of the most important jobs to establish the show.
In the next meeting on January 5, 1970 Mr.W.Jones, Tyllwyd was elected Chairman and Mr.W.Evans, Llwyniorwerth as vice-chairman and also in this meeting it was decided to ask Mr.Dewi Williams, Maesbangor about the possibility of holding the show on his field.
By the meeting on January 19,1970 they had been given the go ahead to use the field and it was decided to hold the show on August 22,1970 with Mr. Dewi Williams and his wife as first Presidents
During the next few months the committee encouraged more people to join the Society and also time was spent raising money.
The first show was very successful and in the meeting held on August 31, 1970 the main topic was looking forward positively to the next show.
The following year the show was held on the first Saturday of August 1971, and it was decided from then on to keep to this date annually.
